The sacral chakra is the second of the seven main chakras, located just below the navel. This is the center of joy and pleasure. This energy field envelopes our reproductive organs which include the testes and the ovaries. The sacral chakra embodies our bladder, lower back, and our sexual organs. The energy of life and pleasure. The sacral chakra is associated with water and the color orange. Water follows with feminine energy. Water is cleansing, rejuvenating, and nutritive. When the energy of our sacral chakra follows freely we feel nurtured, joyful, sensual, abundant, free, creative, both giving and receptive, and lively. We flourish. It’s from here we create life. We give and receive pleasure. The sacral center is associated with our emotions.
Just as the water flows, we are meant to flow with joy, pleasure, confidence, and creativity. We give life to our reality.
When this energy is blocked we can no longer flow freely, as the water is meant to flow. We can become stagnant if you will. It can become hard to find pleasure in even the small things. Intimacy can be challenging on a physical and emotional level. We can become non receptive to the emotions of other people. We may start to search for joy and pleasure outside of ourselves in search of validation and connection.
The organs and gland associated with the sacral center are associated with sexuality, reproduction, family. Many of us have been told it is sinful to enjoy pleasure and that we must hide that part of ourselves in shame. For many growing up in a poverty mindset, we are told that joy is a pleasure we cannot afford and we must work hard and marry and give ourselves over to our family. Survival becomes our whole identity.
